Earthworks High Definition Microphones have revolutionized miking drums. You can hear this for yourself on our Drum Demo CD. Earthworks High Definition Microphones will allow you to hear far more detail in the attack and subtle sounds you cannot hear with conventional microphones. You can also lower overhead microphones without the danger of hearing cymbals splashing and distorting. Drummers with major artists such as Steely Dan, Dream Theater and Joe Satriani use Earthworks High Definition Microphones for recording and live performances.
As Randy Lane, FOH Engineer for American Idol and Dream Theater put it: “The first time I heard Earthworks High Definition Microphones on drums was a revelation. The details of the drum were startlingly apparent. The mics translated every detail of the sound of the stick hitting the cymbal and the varying timbres of the cymbal as it was struck in different areas. The Earthworks Drum Periscope mics on toms and snare were astounding. The full detail and decay of the drum was naturally reproduced. This opened up a whole new musical ensemble for the drummer as he could now deliver delicate details and subtle notes that were translated to the audience as well.”
You can purchase Earthworks High Definition Microphones in matched pairs for drum overheads, or our new Drum Periscope tom and snare mics individually as well. However, there are price savings in the purchase of our microphone kits.
Drum Periscope SnareMic (DP25/C) and TomMic (DP30/C) microphones are available individually and in kits. Purchasing Drum Periscope microphones in a kit costs less than purchasing the elements of the kit separately.
There are new cost saving kits of Drum Periscope tom and snare mics (CloseMic Kits) and a kit of microphones with High Definition Microphones for every element of the drum set (overheads, toms, snare, hi-hat & kick drum) in the Drum FullKit System.
The Earthworks KickPad has gained popularity as a real time saver in getting an instant kick drum sound and the LevelPad is a welcome companion for use with drum mics to prevent overload to preamp or mixer mic inputs.
The RM1 RimMount accessory will allow a Drum Periscope tom or snare microphone to be easily attached to the metal rim of a drum. It can be used to mike either the top or bottom head of a drum.
